Delete your VANI account
You can delete your VANI account yourself, at any time, without asking us. Here is how, what goes with it, and what stays behind.
In the app, the quickest way
- Open VANI and go to Settings.
- Scroll down to Danger Zone.
- Tap Delete Account and confirm.
The account is deleted as soon as you confirm and you are signed out. There is no undo and no grace period.
If you cannot get into the app
Email hello@vani.is from the address on the account and tell us you want it deleted. We check that a deletion request really comes from the account holder before acting on it, and we may ask you something only the account holder would know. That is deliberate: a deletion cannot be undone, and it can take a whole family's routines with it.
We delete within one month of the request.
What is deleted
- Your login and your email address
- Your display name and birth date
- Your routines, tasks, completion history, points and streaks
- Child profiles you manage, unless the family passes to another adult
- Pending invitations you created
- Your recorded privacy choices
What happens to your family
If you are the only adult on the family, the family goes with you, and so does every child profile on it along with their points and streaks.
If there is another adult, the family passes to them. Any child profile that moves across has to be re-confirmed by the adult receiving it: they are asked whether they are that child's parent or guardian before the profile is kept. Your confirmation does not transfer to them.
If the adult receiving a child profile does not confirm, that profile and everything on it are deleted.
The app tells you which of the two is about to happen before you confirm, so read that screen.
What we keep, and for how long
- Encrypted database backups: up to 30 days, then they are overwritten.
- Crash reports already sent: up to 90 days. They carry the identifier the account used. Ask us in your email and we will delete those too.
- Usage analytics, if you had switched it on: up to 12 months, on the same terms.
- Sales and payout records: 7 years, because Icelandic accounting law requires it.
The same goes for analytics events, if you had switched analytics on. Say so in your email and we will delete them.
Two things people get caught by
Deleting the app is not deleting the account. Removing VANI from your phone leaves the account and its data exactly where they were.
Deleting the account does not cancel a subscription. Subscriptions are held by Apple or Google, not by us. Cancel yours in the App Store or Google Play subscription settings, otherwise it keeps renewing.
